PM inaugurates 30 lakh saplings plantation for martyrs

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday inaugurated 30 lakh saplings plantation programme to pay tributes to 30 lakh martyrs of the country’s Liberation War on the occasion of National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2018. 

Earlier the premier inaugurated the tree fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.

She urged countrymen to plant trees to protect environment.  

“We have 22 percent forest in our country. We have taken step to plant trees in 19 coastal areas,” the premier said.

“We have world’s best mangrove. We have taken initiative to protect forest, animals of this mangrove. We have arranged livelihood for pirates after surrender to protect Sundarban,” she said. 

This year, United Nations Environment has come up with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” with the slogan- If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.

On the other hand, this year’s theme for the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair is “Live in Green, Protect the Green and Decorate the City-life-Environment.”
