Union Council member candidate hacked to death

An Awami League-backed union council member candidate was hacked to death by a gang of criminals in Proholapur union under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur on Tuesday, three days ahead of the union elections.

The deceased is Akter Hossain, 45, a resident of Marta village of the union. He is the member candidate of Proholapur union 9 number ward.

Family members said, a gang of criminals intercepted Akter Hossain, at Bankoramona while he was returning home after his election campaign at about 11pm.

At one stage the gang members hacked Akter indiscriminately with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

The cause of dead could not be known.
