Quota reform leader Rashed arrested
Detectives on Sunday arrested one of the leaders of the quota reform movement from Bhasantek area of Dhaka.
Muhammad Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, was arrested in a case filed by a Chhatra League activist under the Information and Communication Technology Act.
Additional deputy commissioner of DMP media and public relations department Obaidur Rahman confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Rashed’s wife Rabeya Alo said detectives and the leaders and activists of BCL beat and picked up him.
However, Convener of quota reform movement Hasan Al Mamun said two leaders -Rashed Khan and Mahfuz Khan- were picked up.
The platform began the indefinite strike on May 14 as the government failed to meet their deadline for the publication of a gazette notification abolishing quota system as was announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on April 11.
The protesters took to the streets on February 17 and continued the protests for reducing quota in government jobs to 10 per cent from the existing 56 per cent.
In the face of protests across the country, the prime minister announced in parliament on April 11 that the quota system in government jobs would be abolished.
