US concerned over GCC polls irregularities

The United States has expressed concern over reported irregularities in Tuesday’s Gazipur City Corporation election.
US Ambassador in Dhaka Mercia Bernicat expressed this concern while talking to diplomatic correspondents in DCAB Talk at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday.
She also said the United States wants Bangladesh to fulfill its ‘commitment to have a free, fair, credible and participatory national election in the country’.
DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and General Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu also spoke on the occasion.
Awami League mayoral candidate Md Jahangir Alam won the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls defeating his nearest contestant BNP-backed Hasan Uddin Sarker with a large margin.
