Customs intelligence earlier on Sunday arrested a Malaysian citizen with gold bars weighting 5.487 kilograms at Hazrat Shajalal International Airport here.

“Lui Kung Hong, a Malaysian citizen of Chinese origin, 33, came here from Kuala Lumpur by Malindo Air flight OD-162, which landed at Hazrat Shajalal International Airport around 1 am. He tried to leave the Green Channel Area hastily dodging scanning. We challenged him and found the gold bars hidden inside his shoes,” director general of Customs Intelligence Dr Md Shahidul Islam told BSS.

The customs intelligence chief said they had information that gold bars were coming by the flight, but they did not know who was carrying those.

“We challenged him as he was behaving suspicious. We found four gold bars and six pieces of gold worth Tk 2.74 crore. The weight of each bar is one kg,” he added.

A case was filed in this regard under the customs act.
