People will be benefited from smart national ID card

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that, the people would be encouraged to take the smart card if they could know its benefits.

The Prime Minister made the comment during the presentation of the Smart NID Card at her office  this morning. After the presentation, PM`s Press Secretary Ihasanul Karim briefed reporters.

Brigadier General Sultanuzzaman Md. Saleh Uddin, Director General and Project Director of the Smart National Identity Card Project, made the power point presentation and highlighted different features of the Smart NID Card.

Terming the introduction of the Smart National ID Card as a good initiative, the Prime Minister expressed her satisfaction over the progress of the ongoing project.

"The Smart NID Card would help contain crimes and corruption in the country side by side with bringing dynamism in the activities of different organizations both in public and private sectors," she said.

During the presentation, the project director said a database of over 9 crore people has developed for the introduction of the Smart NID Card.

He also highlighted technical design and 25 security features of the Smart NID Card. The security features of the card have been incorporated in three tiers to check fake ID cards, while the Election Commission made its design upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation.

The card made in the light the National Identity Card Registration Act, 2010 will be lasted at least 10 years.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, PM`s Security Adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique and EC Secretary Sirajul Islam were present on the occasion.
