Monsoon rain likely to continue for some more days

The ongoing light to moderate rainfall across the country is likely to continue as monsoon has started to set in the country, according to a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) office.

“The light to moderate rain pouring across the country for last five days might continue for some more days as the monsoon has started to set in the county,” BMD official Hafizur Rahman said today.

Besides, the BMD office in a press release said southwest monsoon has advanced up to Chattogran and Sylhet divisions and eastern part of Dhaka division.

Conditions are favorable for further advancement of southwest monsoon, the release said, adding that westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area, extending its trough to the North Bay.

Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country in 24 hours as 9 am tomorrow, the release said.

Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country during the period.

Moreover, the river ports of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number one by 6 pm today.

The maximum temperature was recorded 35.2 degrees Celsius yesterday at Chandpur in Chattogram division and today’s minimum temperature 24.0 degrees Celsius at Tetulia and Srimangal in Rangpur and Sylhet divisions respectively.

The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours as of 6 am today was recorded 75 mm at Tangail in Dhaka division.

The sun sets at 6:43 pm today and rises at 5:11 am tomorrow in the capital.
