President hosts iftar for PM, CJ, ministers
President M Abdul Hamid on Sunday hosted an iftar in honour of the Prime Minister, the Speaker, the Chief Justice (CJ), cabinet members, MPs, foreign diplomats, eminent citizens, and senior civil and military officials at Bangabhaban here, reports BSS.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, former President HM Ershad and opposition leader in the Jatiya Sangsad Begum Raushan Ershad attended the iftar (fast breaking) party held at the Darbar Hall of the President palace.
The President's spouse Rashida Khanam and family members also joined the iftar.
Earlier, President Hamid received the Prime Minister on her arrival at Bangabhaban.
Cabinet members, deputy speaker, advisors to the Prime Minister, foreign diplomats, Chief Election Commissioner, judges of the Supreme Court, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, Members of Parliament, attorney general, vice chancellors of public universities, lawyers, editors and senior journalists, a good number of eminent citizens, and senior military and civil officials also took part in the iftar.
The President and the Prime Minister exchanged pleasantries with them and inquired about their well-being.
Before the iftar, a special munajat was offered seeking divine blessing for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the country and its people.
Prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and people who made their supreme sacrifices in different democratic movements, including the War of Liberation in 1971.
Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jame Mosque Moulana Muhammad Saiful Kabir conducted the munajat.
