8 ‘drug traders’ killed in ‘gunfights’ in 6 districts

Eight people were killed in separate incidents of reported gunfights with law enforcers in Jashore, Tangail, Rajshahi, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah and Narsingdi districts early Monday. 

The deceased all were the drug traders, claimed the law enforcers adding that a large number of arms and contraband drugs were recovered from their possession. 

In Jashore, three suspected drugs dealers were killed in separate reported gunfight at Shekhawati and Kholadanga areas of the city in the city at 3 am.

The identities of deceased couldn’t be known immediately.

Confirming the news, Jashore Kotwali model police station officer in-charge AKM Akmal Huda said, acting on tip-off that drug dealers themselves locked in gunfights in Shekhawati and Kholadanga areas of the city, a team of police conducted raids at the places and found two dead bodies from Shekhawati and another from Kholadanga area along with 500 pieces of Yaba tablets.

Besides, two pistols and bullet casings also recovered from the spots, he added. 

In Tangail, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of RAB-12 at an area of Ghatail upazila around 12:30am.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Azad. 

In Rajshahi, an unidentified drugs dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with members of RAB-5 at Jamira area of Belpukur police station of the district.

In Jhenidah, a suspected drugs dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB at Norendrapur village of Kaliganj upazila at 2 am.

The deceased was identified as Sobdul Islam, son of Mohammad Ali of the same village. RAB recovered a pistol and bullets along contraband Phensedyl, Yaba pills from the spot.

In Chuadanga, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Uthali village of Chuadanga.

The deceased was identified as Jonab Ali, son of Zamt Ali, resident of the same village. He was accused in eleven drugs related cases filed with different police stations including JIbonnagor police station, said police.

Earlier, four ‘drug traders’, a ‘dacoit’ and a ‘snatcher’ were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers in Mymensingh, Feni, Barishal, Jashore, Dinajpur and Tangail districts early Sunday.
