2 killed in ‘encounter’ with RAB in CTG
Two alleged drug traders were killed in an 'encounter' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at city's drug hub Barishal Colony last Thursday night.
RAB sources said the deceased were identified as Habibur Rahman, 42, hailed from Patiya upazila of the district, and Mosharrf,22, hailed from Burichang upazila of Cumilla district.
The shootout occurred around 11:40 pm last night at Barishal Colony, an area infamous for drugs trade in port city, as a RAB-7 team that came under gun attack during an anti-drugs operation, said Mimtanur Rahman, assistant director of RAB.
"The RAB patrol retaliated when the drug dealers opened fire. We saw two of them lying at the scene of the incident when the shooting stopped," he said.
Later, locals identified them as Habibur Rahman and Mosharrf.
Mimtanur Rahman said the team went to raid the colony on Ice Factory Road under Sadarghat Police Station near the railway station as part of an anti-drug operation.
A foreign made pistol, two one shooter gun, 30,400 peices yaba tablets, 40 bottle Phensidyl and foreign made liquor were recovered from the place of occurrence.
