The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Monday on a petition filed by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) seeking a stay on a High Court order that directed it to provide half of Tk 1 crore as compensation to the family of deceased Titumir College student Rajib Hasan.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date on Thursday after hearing on the petition.

Earlier, on May 13, Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique fixed May 17 for hearing on the petition.

On Thursday, BRTC filed the petition with the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the compensation slapped by the HC on it.

Rajib lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses of BRTC and Sajan Paribahan which were trying to overtake each other in Bangla Motor area in Dhaka on April 3.

Later he succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17.

On May 8, the HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque issued an order to provide Tk 1 crore as compensation to the family of Rajib Hasan.

The HC had directed owners of ‘Sajan Paribahan’ to pay Tk 50 lakh and BRTC the rest.
