ACC to prepare list of top graft suspects

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) plans to prepare a list of top graft suspects through its intelligence unit by the year end to launch probe against them for effectively fighting corruption in different sectors, reports BSS.

The Commission has taken the move under its one-year strategic work plan to gear up anti-corruption activities and strengthen its capacity to deal with top graft suspects, a senior ACC official said.

Under the 2018 strategic work plan, the Commission will prepare the list of top graft suspects by identifying the most corrupt people who are working in different government departments, agencies and other institutions.

The anti-corruption watchdog already formed 25 institutional teams that were investigating in different public institutions, departments and agencies to probe graft allegations. Currently, the 25 teams are working in 25 major public organisations to make those corruption-free.

The teams will record the names of the major graft suspects in these orgainsations and they will be taken into account in preparing a final list of top wrongdoers, the official said.

ACC director general (admin) Munir Chowdhury told BSS that the Commission had already formed an intelligence unit, headed by its director Mir Zainal Abedin Shebly, to fight corruption effectively.

He said all teams have already been asked to find out the reasons behind corruption and irregularities in providing services to people, and submit reports to the Commission indentifying the suspects involved in corruption in these public bodies.

"After finalizing the list of graft suspects, necessary steps will be taken against the people involved in corruption," he said.
