9 killed in stampede in Ctg

At least nine people were killed and 50 others injured in a stampede while collecting iftar items distributed by Md Shahjahan, proprietor of Kabir Group of Industries, in Chattogram district.

The incident took place at Shahjahan's house at Nolua union under Satkania upazila in the district on Monday morning.

Local UP chairman Taslima Akter confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Chattogram Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Emran Bhuiyan said that 30,000 to 40,000 people gathered at the house to collect iftar items ahead of Ramadan. 

In addition to the people of different upazilas of Chattogram, people from Cox’s Bazaar district gathered at the place to collect iftar items, he said.

It is primarily believed that the incident took place due to mismanagement, he added.
