2-Day BGB-BSF medical campaign on Sylhet-Meghalaya border ends
A two-day medical campaign jointly organised by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Sylhet-Meghalaya frontier areas concluded today, rendering health services to the common people at Green Park in Tamabil.
The 48 Border Guard Battalion and 30 BSF Battalion jointly conducted the campaign at Tamabil border in Sylhet and Dauki border of Meghalaya in India aiming to make a bridge between the border forces of the two close-door neighbours and the people living in the frontier areas, BSS reported.
During the medical campaign, a total of 800 people in the bordering areas of both the countries were provided with different types of health services and medicines free of cost.
A medical team comprising physicians from BGB, BSF and Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital provided treatment to the people.
Talking to reporters, Commandant of 30 BSF Battalion Saifur Rahman Khan said, "The common people tend to get afraid of the uniform. We believe such kind of medical campaigns will help making a bridge between the border security forces and the common people of both the countries helping in reducing crimes in the border areas".
Sector Commander of Sylhet BGB Md Nasir Uddin said, "We organized the medical campaign to facilitate the border people with healthcare services as they are hardly able avail of the services going to city hospitals".
"We also think that such kind of medical campaigns will help in building friendly relations between the common people and the border security forces," he said, adding that it would be easy to prevent crimes in the border areas with the assistance of the local people.
Earlier, the campaign was inaugurated at Club Hall in Dauki border of Meghalaya in India on Friday. BSF Deputy Inspector General (medical) Dr AC Bhardwajan and Sector Commander of Sylhet BGB Md Nasir Uddin jointly inaugurated the campaign.
