Voting in GCC polls not possible on May 15: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday said voting in Gazipur City Corporation polls is not possible on May 15 next.
He came up with the information after a meeting with Gazipur district administration and district election commission officials held at Gazipur Deputy Commissioner office.
CEC said that even today if the court ordered, it was possible to hold the elections on May 15. Whereas before holding the polls, it is necessary to train about 8,500 officials and to deploy about 12,000 law enforcement personnel. But, it is not possible to deploy so many manpower within this shortest time.
However, if the court orders on Thursday to hold the elections, we will have to hold the polls by this time as per the court order, he added.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Humayun kabir presided the meeting while GCC polls returning officer Rakib Uddin Mandal, Additional Deputy commissioner (Revenue) Md Mahmud Hassan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Khandakar Yasir Arefin, district election officer Tarifuzzaman and NDC Kudrat e Khuda were attended there.
