SC hearing on GCC poll stay Wednesday

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hold hearing on appeals against a High Court order that stayed for three months the polls to Gazipur City Corporation (GCC).

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent the matter to apex court full bench for further hearing, BSS reported.

The High Court on May 6 stayed for three months the polls to Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), issuing a rule on the authorities concerned to explain as to why inclusion of six mouzas (areas) of Savar in GCC shall not be declared illegal.

After the order, Awami League mayor candidate Jahangir Alam and BNP mayor candidate Hasan Uddin Sarkar filed two separate appeals with the Appellate Division.
