The government has fixed new office timing during Ramadan for the offices of government, semi-government and autonomous bodies.

Office hours will be from 9am to 3:30pm with a 30-minute prayer break from 1pm to 1:30pm.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at PM office on Monday presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam told reporters after the meeting at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

It is said in the meeting, banks, insurance companies, other financial institutions, post offices, BTTB, Bangladesh Railway, hospitals, state-owned industries, factories and other organisations whose services are essential will follow their own timing considering public interest.

The month of holy Ramadan will begin either on the eve of May 17 or May 18, depending on the sighting of the Moon. Now, the office hours is from 9am to 5pm.
