Child rape accused killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
A person, who was the accused in a case filed for rape of a five-year-old girl, has been killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7 at Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar in the wee hours of Sunday.
The deceased is Abdul Rahim, 20.
A firearm, three rounds of bullets and two bullet shells have been recovered from the spot.
RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Company Commander Major Ruhul Amin said: “On information, we conducted a drive in the area. Sensing our presence, Rahim and his associates opened fire at us.
In retaliation, the members of the elite force fired back that left Rahim dead while they others managed to flee the scene, he added.
Bokhtiar Uddin Choudhury, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, said: “We were informed that Rahim, who was the accused in the rape case, was killed in a gunfight.”
On March 26, a case was filed against Rahim for raping a five-year-old girl in Chakaria upazila.
