Khairul Alam Bhuiyan elected Haluaghat mayor

Awami League nominated candidate Khairul Alam Bhuiyan Khorrom has been elected unofficially as the mayor of newly constituted Haluaghat municipality polls in Mymensingh on Thursday.
Khorrom got 3,834 votes while his rival BNP nominated candidate Md Abdul Hamid secured 3,051 votes, said Zakir Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer of Haluaghat, reports BSS.
Out of 14,427 voters, 11,219 exercised their right to franchise in the polls, sources said.
The election was held peacefully at nine centres of nine wards of the municipality.
