4 bodies recovered as boat capsizes in Shitalakhya
Police recovered three bodies of five missing young men on Sunday morning when a passenger boat capsized in the river Shitalakhya after being hit by a sand-laden cargo vessel in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj on Friday night.
Earlier on Saturday night around 11.45pm, one body was recovered and another is still missing.
Syeduzzaman, Sub Inspector of Rupganj Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
The deceased were identified as factory worker Latif, 18, son of Azizul Mia, a resident of South Donia area under Kadamtali Police Station, shoe trader Tushar, 26, son of Nasiruddin, hardware trader Saiful Islam Ripon alias Babu, 20, son of Joynal Mia, residents of West Dolairpar area and Jasim Mohammad Razu, 28, son of Sirajul Islam, a resident of Barpa area under Rupganj.
Tailor Sharif, 28, son of Robiul Mia, is still missing in the incident.
According to a source, a group of 14 youths hired the boat for a pleasure trip from Dhaka’s Demra. Nine passengers managed to reach the riverbank by swimming and remaining five went missing after being struck by a cargo vessel from behind.
