Govt cuts “Shaheed Zia” from Shishu Park

The government has cut the name of Shaheed Zia from the Shishu Park which is situated in the capital’s Shahbagh.

“Now it is only Shishu Park”, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Wednesday said this while briefing about new projects of his ministry and programme marking the Genocide Day on March 25 and the Independence and National Day on March 26 next.

Replying to a question of a newsman, the minister said we will remove the old nameplate within one week from the main gate of the park which is being displayed as “Shaheed Zia Shishu Park”.

In 1979, late president and founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman established the park for the children naming his nickname ‘Zia’ and after his assassination in 1981 the park was renamed as Shaheed Zia Shishu Park.
