Prof Shahana first woman pro-VC of BSMMU
Prof Shahana Akther Rahman, chairman of Pediatrics Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), has been made first ever woman pro-vice chancellor of the varsity.
She has been appointed as pro-vice chancellor (education) yesterday for three years by chancellor of the varsity and President Md Abdul Hamid, an official release said today.
BSMMU sources said Prof Shahana joined her new office today.
Prof Shahana, wife of former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, attained her MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College in 1982. A proud mother of three daughters, Prof Shahana is active in medical studies, service and research from 1991.
More than hundred research papers of her have been published in different local and foreign journals and Prof Shahana has supervised more than 30 MD and FCPS research works as thesis guide.
She is the architect behind "OSCE and Structured Course Curriculum" which have been newly added to Bangladesh medical studies programme. Prof Shahana launched international standard graduate nursing department at BSMMU. A pioneer in child rheumatology in the country, Prof Shahana has taken different clinical fellowship trainings in the United Kingdom, Singapore and India.
