Attack on Zafar Iqbal: Fayzur’s bicycle recovered
Police have recovered the bicycle which was used by Fayzur Rahman Safiqur during the attack on noted writer and professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Muhammad Abdul Wahab said the bicycle was found abandoned in a workshop at the university gate on Tuesday afternoon.
According to CCTV footage, Fayzur was seen to enter the university riding on the bicycle, he added.
Wahab said that after the incident, the key of the bicycle, a 6-inch knife, Chira (food item) and a 10 taka note found in his pocket. But, the bicycle was not available since the incident.
Police seized the bicycle as an evidence of the case filed in the incident, he added.
It is mentionable, Fayzur Rahman stabbed Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal in the head during a programme at SUST in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon last.
Prof Iqbal was first admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and then to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment.
The attack occurred around 5.40pm. The attacker was immediately taken down and detained by authorities after a severe thrashing.
