Writ against quota in govt job rejected

The High Court on Monday rejected a writ petition filed against the quota system in the government job.

The bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the rejection order.

Dhaka University’s student Anisur Rahman Mir, Member Secretary of Comilla Journalists' Association Didarul Alam and Senior Sub-editor of daily Amader Orthoneeti Abdul Wadud filed the petition on January 31.

The petitioners said the quota system in the civil service is against the provisions of articles 19, 28 and 29 of the constitution, which ensure equal opportunities for all citizens.

The government introduced 30 per cent quota for the Freedom Fighters and 10 per cent for the victimized women on November 05 in 1972, applicable for the government, private, defense, semi-government and nationalized institutions. The quota system was reformed and changed later.
