SUST teachers to abstain from work Monday

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) teachers will observe two hours work abstention from 11am to 1pm wearing black badges on Monday protesting the attack on noted writer and Professor Dr Muhammad Jafor Iqbal.

SUST Teachers Association made the decision at an emergency meeting on Sunday evening, says a press release.

In the meeting, condemning the attack on Jafar Iqbal, teachers urged to beef up security on the campus, it added.

Besides, they announced to stage a token sit-in progamme wearing black badges and demanded the formation of probe committee into the matter.

Prof Zafar Iqbal, who was seriously injured in the knife attack on SUST campus on Saturday afternoon, is now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.

Soon after the incident, SUST students caught the attacker from the Academic Building-A and gave him a mass beating before handing him over to police.
