Why no Bangabandhu sculpture at Suhrawardy Udyan, asks HC
The High Court (HC) on Sunday issued a rule, asking the authorities concerned to explain in two weeks as to why it shall not pass an order to build a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the exact place where he had delivered the historic speech on March 7, 1971.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Jafar Ahmed issued the rule, asking the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor, secretaries of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the director general of Department of Architecture to reply the rule.
The court came up with the order following a writ petition filed by four architects, reports BSS.
The High Court in another rule issued on November 20, 2017, asked why a stage will not be recreated at the place, where Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stood and delivered his historic speech on March 7, 1971, accorded a reception to former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and where the Pakistani occupation army surrendered to the allied force on December 16, 1971.
