Bangladeshi-Americans condemn attack on Zafar Iqbal
Bangladeshi-Americans on Sunday strongly condemned the attack on noted writer and educationist Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
“We wholeheartedly condemn this hateful attack on Dr. Zafar Iqbal in Bangladesh. Criminals have attacked many of our intellectuals in recent days have hateful political motives to destabilize our motherland,” Atiquer Rahman, Chairman of Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA).
The statement adds: “Dr. Iqbal is an asset for Bangladesh and his contributions to our culture is priceless in Bangladesh and abroad. We North American Bangladeshi-American deeply concerned about these criminal Attacks. We hope and pray for all victims.”
An unidentified young man stabbed Zafar Iqbal in the head during a programme at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet on Saturday. One person was detained over the attack.
Prof Iqbal was first admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and then to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment.
