Road deaths claimed 15 lives a day in February
At least 15 people were killed and 36 others injured in 13 road accidents every day in the month of February this year, according to a report of the National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR).
On the other hand, at least 413 people, including 53 women and 48 children, died and 995 others, including 46 women and 19 children, injured in 373 road crashes in the month, the report revealed it on Friday.
The fatal accidents took place on the several roads, highways, national roads, inter-district and regional roads across the country in February, reports UNB.
The report was prepared on the basis of 22 English and Bangla national dailies, 10 regional newspapers and eight online news portals and news agencies, the report said.
According to the report, some 22 people, including five women, were killed and 80 others, including one woman, injured in 31 railway accidents, while seven people, including one woman and three children, were killed and seven others injured in six waterway accidents during the same period.
The observation said that maximum major road accidents happened due to whimsicality and shortage of carefulness of heavy vehicles’ drivers. There are lack of proper monitoring and supervision of the authorities concerned in this regard, the NCPSRR said.
