DNCC elections: HC asked to dispose of rules

The Supreme Court has directed the High Court to dispose of the rules over the legality of the schedule of Dhaka North and South City Corporations elections.

The four-member Appellate Division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain asked the HC bench led by Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore to hear and dispose of the rules immediately.

The process for holding the elections to DNCC will remain halted until the rule is disposed of, the court added.

On February 1, the EC filed a leave-to-appeal with the apex court seeking stay on HC's order that halted the process for holding the elections to Dhaka North City Corporation for six months.

The DNCC mayoral post fell vacant with the death of Anisul Huq on November 30 last year.
