Govt to bring back Tarique Rahman soon: Shajahan

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan today said BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman, recently convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, will be brought back home soon through the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol.

The minister said this while inaugurating the new building of Charmuguria Merchant Bahumukhi High School in Madaripur this morning.

The building was constructed at a cost of Taka 50 lakh financed by the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.

The minister said the court and Election Commission will decide on whether convicted BNP leaders- Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman- would take part in the next parliamentary election. The government has nothing to do with the matter, he added.

Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Madaripur Azaharul Islam, officer in charge (OC)of Sadar Thana M Kamrul Hasan District Muktijoddah Sangsad Commander Shahjahan Hawlader, among others, were in the function.

Earlier, the shipping minister visited the fire affected Haider Quazi Jute Mills.
