Khaleda gets division in jail: IG Prisons
BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was given division in jail on Sunday as per the court order.
“We have given Begum Khaleda Zia the division in jail soon after the court order reached the jail this afternoon,” Inspector General of Prisons Brig General Syed Iftekhar Uddin told newsmen.
A nine-member delegation of lawyers headed by Advocate Sanaullah Mia handed over the court order to the jail authority regarding Khaleda Zia’s division in jail Sunday afternoon, reports BSS.
Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said they will take measures relating to allow BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia division in the jail following a court order.
He said after coming out of an inter-ministerial meeting on security arrangements ahead of the upcoming International Mother Language Day.
"Begum Khaleda Zia has been kept in the jail considering her social status as she is a chairperson of a big party like the BNP," the minister added.
On Sunday a Dhaka court passed an order asking the authorities concerned to give BNP Chairperson Kaleda Zia division in the jail as per the jail code.
On a query about the investigation into the killing of the journalist couples Sagar-Runi, the home minister said, "Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is now conducting investigation into the matter and the probe report will be made public upon completion of the investigation."
Asked about the security arrangements ahead of the upcoming International Mother Language Day on February 21, he also said, "Central Shaheed Minar area, Dhaka University, TSC, Nilkheet and its adjoining areas will be brought under stringent security measures with Installation of CCTVs since February 20 night."
