Ansar-VDP celebrates 38th founding anniversary Monday
Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) will celebrate its 38th founding anniversary on Monday.
Marking the day, the auxiliary force will hold its national assembly amid daylong festivity at Ansar Academy at Shafipur in Gazipur.
The force was formed as the “East Pakistan Ansars” by the East Pakistan Ansars Act of 1948, and officially launched on 12 February 1948, reports BSS.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday greeted members of Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) on the occasion of its founding anniversary.
In separate messages on the eve of the event, they wished success of all programmes marking the national assembly and continuous progress of the force.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said, since its inception on February 12 in 1948, the Ansar force has been closely related to the country's history, growth and development along with maintaining law and order.
“The work efficiency and service of this force had made our country's history glorious,” he added.
A total of 670 members of this force embraced martyrdom in the War of Liberation, he said.
Terming Bangladesh Ansar and VDP as a partner of the development and progress, the President said about 61 thousand Ansar members are now engaged in ensuring safety of important installations and overall security.
They would continue to play the role with sincerity, honesty and devotion to render their services to the people, he hoped.
The President appreciated the role of Ansar in ensuring security in public-private institutions and mills-factories and helping police in curbing crimes.
The Ansar-VDP has further scopes to work for social development, he said and hoped that the force would continue its efforts for nation building being inspired with the spirit of the Liberation War, he added.
The President said members of Ansar and VDP are playing a praiseworthy role in protecting properties of railway and checking subversive activities on the highways.
Besides, he said, the force is also playing an active role in human resource development.
He also praised the contribution of Ansar-VDP in creation of employment opportunities for youth and women by providing various free trainings.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Ansar has a glorious history.
This force plunged into the Liberation War in 1971 in response to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she said and recalled that 12 members of Asnar force presented guard of honour to chief of country's provincial government at Meherpur Amrokanon on April 17 in 1971.
She recalled with profound respect 670 Ansar members who were martyred in the Liberation War and language martyr Abdul Jabbar, who was an Ansar commander.
Since its inception, the Ansar-DVP has been working to ensure security of public property and socio-economic development, she said, adding that members of this force are discharging their duties efficiently risking their lives.
The Prime Minister hoped that the force will play an important role in implementing 'Vision 2021' and ‘Vision 2041.’
