4 killed as truck hits Ijtema return bus in Sylhet

At least four people were killed and nine others injured when a truck hit a Ijtema return bus at Sat Mile Rashidpur area of Dakshin Surma in Sylhet on Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abu Bakkar, 50, Akbar Ali, 50, Abdul Gofur, 50 and Abdul Khalek, 45. They all were the inhabitants of the Sunamganj.

Identities of the injured people could not be known immediately. They were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

In this connection, Khairul Fajal, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station, said: “30 people were returning by a bus from Tongi after performing Biswa Ijtema, an annual gathering of Muslims. When the bus reached at Sat Mile Rashidpur area, a truck coming opposition hit it from behind.”

At that time, three passengers of the bus were killed on the spot and ten others injured. Later they all were rushed to the hospital and the doctors declared another man dead, the OC added.
