President joins Akheri Munajat from Bangabhaban

President M Abdul Hamid joined the Akheri Munajat (concluding prayers) of the second phase of the three-day Bishwa Ijtema from Bangabhaban here on Sunday, reports BSS.

The President along with officials and staff members of Bangabhaban took part in the Akheri Munajat from Darbar Hall through big digital screen as the special prayer was telecast live from the banks of the Turag River at Tongi in Gazipur.

Senior Islamic scholar and Imam of Dhaka's Kakrail mosque Hafez Mawlana Mohammad Zubaer conducted the Akheri Munajat, seeking continued peace, progress and welfare of the country as well as the Muslim Ummah.

The second phase of the 53rd Bishwa Ijtema, the largest Muslim congregation after the holy hajj, started on Friday with participation of Muslims from 15 districts.

Earlier, the first phase of three-day Bishwa Ijtema began on January 12 with the participation of thousands of Muslims who came from 17 districts.

The New Delhi-based Tablig-e-Jamaat has been organising the Ijtema since 1966. The Ijtema is being held in two phases from 2011 to ease accommodation and transportation problems.
