19 held including Jamaat activists in Dinajpur
Police, in special drives arrested 18 persons including five activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and two drug traders from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am this morning.
Law enforcers also recovered 95 bottles of Phensidyl and 200 pieces of Yaba tablets during the drives.
Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested seven persons including two drug traders with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets from Suihari around 11:30pm, Birganj Thana police arrested two persons, Phulbari Thana police arrested two persons, Khansama Thana police arrested one person, Kaharole Thana police arrested two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami around 11pm from Chawrongi Moor, Hakimpur Thana police arrested one person and Chirirbandar Thana police arrested three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami around 11:30pm from at Nosrotpur village of the upazila.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained one alleged drug trader with 95 bottles of Phensidyl around 6am from Hili railway station in Hakimpur upazila of the district.
Later, the detained person was handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said.
The arrested people were sent to jail.
