A cold wave is sweeping over the country and disrupting the life. People have been suffering badly due to the persisting cold weather.

The coldest temperature was recorded 2.6 degrees Celsius at Tetulia upazila in Panchagarh on Monday, said Assistant Meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department Mizanur Rahman.

The second lowest temperature 2.9 degrees Celsius is at Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari and third lowest 3 degrees Celsius in Dimla upazila, he added.

The lowest temperature in the country’s history was recorded at 2.8 degrees Celsius in Srimangal in 1968, when Bangladesh was East Pakistan.

In a press release, Met office said: severe cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and the regions of Tangail, Srimangal & Chuadanga.

Mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Mymensingh and Barisal divisions, rest parts of Dhaka, Sylhet & Khulna divisions and the regions of  Sandwip, Sitakunda, Comilla and Noakhali and it may continue.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the country during midnight till morning and it may continue at places till noon, it also added.
