Tonu murder: parent’s statement recorded by CID
The members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have quizzed slain Comilla Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu’s parents, her two elder brothers and one cousin.
The family members of Tonu were taken to CID’s Comilla office for questioning.
Investigators, on Saturday, visited the spot inside the Comilla Cantonment where the 19-year-old Victoria College student’s body was found.
Special Superintendent of Police Nazmul Karim Khan said, we have just started the investigation. Tonu’s parents were called to our office. This is a continuous process. They will be questioned repeatedly to find out whether any issue is missing…We have to handle it this way.
Tonu, a second-year history student and a cultural activist, was found dead near her home inside the cantonment on March 20.
Her father Yaar Hossain filed a case the next day without naming any accused. Investigators are yet to make a breakthrough.
The case was handed over to the Detective Branch of police on March 25 but the CID was put in charge of the case a day later.
The murder caused outrage in different parts of the country, with people from all walks of life calling for the arrest and punishment of the culprits.
