RpCC polls: Voting ends, ballots counting on

Counting votes began as election in the Rangpur city corporation polls (RpCC) ended Thursday amid a war of words of candidates.

The voting started at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm without any break.

Returning Officers Subhash Chandra Sarkar told Jago News that voting ended peacefully and counting is underway.

Including adoption of adequate security measures, the RpCC polls at 1,122 polling booths of 193 polling centres  held in a free and transparent manner, he added.

It is mentionable, 283 candidates, including seven for the mayoral post, 211 for 33 general  councilor posts and 65 for 11 reserved women councilor posts are in the fray for RpCC polls this time.

The key mayoral post candidates are: Awami League-nominated Sarfuddin  Ahmed Jhantu, Jatiya Party-nominated Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa and BNP-nominated  Kawser Zaman Babla.
