ASEAN advocacy director meets with Speaker
Advocacy Director of ASEAN Parliamentarians for human rights (APHR) Oren Samet today met with the Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today.
During the meeting they talked about Rohingya issue and the role of ASEAN countries, said a press release.
Dr Chaudhury said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given shelters to Rohingyas with her motherly affection, on humanitarian ground and the government are providing them with accommodation, food and medical supports."
"The PM also placed five point proposals to the United Nations General Assembly for a permanent solution of the Rohingya crisis," she added.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance Ministry Dr M Abdur Razzak was present.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Deputy Speaker of Indonesia Dr Fadli Zon met with the Speaker at her office.
During the meeting they discussed bilateral issues of the two countries. Dr Zon praised Bangladesh and countrymen for giving shelter to Rohingyas and provide them other essential services.
Bangladesh ambassador to Indonesia Rina P. Soemarno, Nurmansya Tanjung, MP and Ledia Hanifa Amaliah, MP were present, among others.
