10 dead in stampede at Mohiuddin’s kulkhani
At least ten people have been killed and fifty more injured in a stampede at the Kulkhani of former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in Chittagong.
The incident took place on Monday when food was being handed out by Mohiuddin’s family at Rima Community Centre in the city, according to police.
On the occasion of Kulkhani, family of Mohiuddin has arranged mezban for 80,000 people at 12 places in the port city, including his Chashma Hill residence in Sholoshahar area on the day, said Mohammad Osman Gani, personal secretary to Mohiuddin Chowdhury.
The other venues for mezban include The King of Chittagong in Panchlaish area, K Square Community Centre at GEC intersection, Kisholoy Community Centre at Chawkbazar, Swiss Park Community Centre in Pancchlaish R/A, Swaronika Community Centre at Love Lane, N Mohammad Convention Hall in Muradpur area, KB Convention Hall at Bakalia, BIP Banquet Community Centre and Sagarika Square at Kazir Dewry and Golden Touch Community Centre in Double Mooring area.
Besides, mezban for people of Hindu Community, Buddhist, Christian and other religions has been arranged at Rima Convention Centre in Jamal Khan area and mezban at Chashma Hill residence only for women, said family sources.
The former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury died around 3am on Friday at Max Hospital in Mehedibag area of the port city.
