President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the War of Liberation by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka in the wee hours of morning, marking the 47th Victory Day, reports BSS.

The president placed the wreaths at the altar of the National Memorial at 6.34am, followed by the premier.

After placing the wreath, President Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the War of Liberation of 1971.

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force presented state salute on the occasion when bugles played the last post.

Cabinet members, parliament members, chiefs of the three services, diplomats, and high civil and military officials were present here.

Later, flanked by senior leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina laid another wreath at the National Memorial as the Awami League president.
