Mohiuddin Chowdhury laid to rest

ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, a Vetern Awami league leader and three times elected Mayor of Chittagong City, was buried on Friday with full state honours beside his father's grave at Chasma Hill family graveyard in Chittagong, reports BSS.

His namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers on historic Laldigi Maidan in the port city. Mohiuddin Chowdhury passed away at city's Max Hospital early today at the age of 74.

He left his two sons, two daughters, wife and a host of relatives, friends, well-wishers and huge political fellows to mourn his death.

President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and grief at the death of renowned politician and leader of the mass people ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, State Minister for Public Administration Begum Ismat Ara Sadique and Chittagong city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin issued separate condolence messages.

They expressed profound shock and condolence at the death of Mohiuddin and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Recalling his contribution to the country and its people, they said the loss in his death is really irreparable to the country's political arena.

Chowdhury, one of the organisers of Liberation War and most loveable political leader to the people of the region, had been suffering from heart and kidney complications for long. He was put on life-support at Max Hospital at Mehedibagh in the port city on Thursday evening.
