President pay tributes to martyred intellectuals

President Abdul Hamid on Thursday paid profound respect and rich tributes to the best sons of the soil on the occasion of the ‘Martyred Intellectuals Day’. In the wee hours of Thursday, the President has reached Dhaka wrapping up the OIC conference tour. 

After paying tribute, President Abdul Hamid stood for some time in front of the altar and kept silence. At this time, the melodious tune of Bugle was played.

In the honor of the martyrs, an adroit team of the Armed Forces gave the Guard of Honor. After paying tribute to the martyrs, President exchanged pleasantries with freedom fighters and martyred intellectual family members.

After the President’ tribute, Members of the cabinet and eminent people of the society also paid tribute to martyred intellectuals. During this time people from all walks of life including various political, socio-cultural organizations paid tribute too.

During the Liberation War, on this day of 1971, Professor Mofazzal Haidar Chowdhury of Bangla Department of Dhaka University, Munir Chowdhury, Anwar Pasha, Shahidullah Kaisar, Gias Uddin, Dr Fazle Rabbi, Abdul Alim Chowdhury, Siraj Uddin Hossain, Selina Parveen and Dr Joytirmay Guha Thakurada were among those who were killed by the occupation forces and their collaborators.

In a separate messages on the occasion of the day, President Mohammad Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sarmin Chowdhury, Opposition leader Roushan Ershad and BNP Chairpersion Khaleda Zia have given separate messages urged the people from all strata to come forward being inspired with the spirit of War of Liberation to build a knowledge-based society as well as poverty-free country.
