Dhaka concerned over US recognition of Israeli capital
Bangladesh today expressed deep concern at the recent US announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"Bangladesh urges all parties concerned to take a pragmatic approach to the Middle East Peace Process in reaching a two state solution for peace and stability in the region," a foreign ministry statement said.
It said Bangladesh reaffirms its position in favour of establishing the State of Palestine on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Bangladesh stresses preserving the legal status of Jerusalem within the framework of relevant UN resolutions, the statement said.
US President Donald Trump reversed decades of U.S. policy on Wednesday by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, imperiling Middle East peace efforts and upsetting the Arab world and Western allies alike.
