Cyclone Komen likely to hit Cox`s Bazar afternoon

The cyclonic storm ‘Komen’ may cross Chittagong coast near Sandwip in the afternoon, a met official said. According to the met office the cyclone centered about 80km northwest of Cox’s Bazar port Thursday morning.

AKM Nazmul Haque, met official in Cox`s Bazar, said to Jago News, a part of the cyclone hit Teknaf and Saint Martin coast Wednesday midnight and is likely to cross Chittagong coastal area Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile all maritime ports in Bangladesh have been asked to hoist danger signal number 7 and all fishing boats, trawlers and marine vessels over the North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

Under its influence squally weather is continuing over North Bay, adjoining Coastal area of Bangladesh and there islands and the maritime ports.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the system centre.

Cox’s Bazar district administration alerted the locals by announcing the danger and requested them to go to the shelters nearby.

Dr. ANupam Shaha, Deputy Commissioner of COx’s Bazar said, school and colleges have been shut down and there and new cyclone-shelters have been opened for the locals.
