JCD-police clash near High court, 7 detained

A group of activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal clashed with police near High Court as police tried to foil their attempt to bring out a procession after BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia left the Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judges Court at Bakshibazar on Tuesday afternoon.

Police fired teargas shells to disperse them and the activists also threw stones on police in retaliation.

Being chased by police, a group of JCD men went to near Bangabazar a set fire to a motorbike. At that time, seven leaders and activists of BNP have been detained from the spot.

Several other vehicles were also damaged during the clash.  

Jafar Ali Biswas, Inspector (Investigation) of Shahbagh Police Station said seven people were detained from the spot for creating anarchy. Right now the situation is under control.

Earlier, Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judges Court granted bail to Khaleda Zia in two graft cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
