Mayor Annisul’s body arrives

The body of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq, who died at a London hospital on Thursday while undergoing treatment, arrived in Dhaka around 1pm on Saturday.

Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq received the body at the airport.

BGMEA Siddiqur Rahman and FBCCI President Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among others, were also present at the airport.

Earlier, the body has been arrived at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet from London. Then his body has been flown to Dhaka from Sylhet.

The body of Huq is now being taken to his Banani residence in city.

Later, the body will be brought to the Army Stadium for paying rich tributes where people from all walks of life would pay their last respect to the late Mayor.

Huq would be buried at Banani graveyard following a Namaz-e-Janaza at Army Stadium after Asr prayers today, personal assistant of the late Mayor Mizanur Rahman said.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Regent Park Central Mosque in London after Jumma prayers on Friday.

Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, who had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, passed away at the age of 65.

Huq is survived by his wife, son, two daughters and a host of friends and relatives.

He had been kept on life support since Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs.

Earlier, he was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at the hospital.

Doctors of the hospital removed the ventilation apparatus from his mouth at 4.23pm (London time), declaring him dead, family sources said.

Huq was born on 27 October 1952, in Kobirhat, Noakhali to Shariful Huq and Rowshan Ara Huq. He obtained his bachelor degree in economics from the University of Chittagong.

Huq established his own business, Mohammadi Group in 1986.

He was the former president of several apex bodies including the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Federation of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Independent Power Producers Association.
