Envoys’ Conference 2017 begins tomorrow
Bangladesh is set to stage a conference of its envoys' abroad, the first of its kind, with the foreign ministry calling the meet "Diplomacy for Peace and People", to be opened by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow.
"This conference . . . is being organized for the first time since the independence of Bangladesh," a foreign ministry statement said adding Bangladesh ambassadors and high commissioners currently based in 58 countries are to join the event in the capital.
It said the Prime Minister would inaugurate the three-day envoys' conference and was expected to give them necessary directives.
"High commissioners, ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of Bangladesh will attend," the statement said.
The conference will have exclusive sessions on foreign policy issues in the changing global context.
It will also have panel discussions on different contemporary national and international issues.
Ministers, Advisers, Members of Parliament and senior officials will address the ambassadors in these sessions and are expected to provide guidance in securing national interest.
The conference aims to discuss issues ranging from foreign policy challenges to implementation of development goals, expansion of trade, welfare of expatriate Bangladeshis and projection of Bangladesh as a responsible and peace loving State in the world.
In the sessions, the envoys will also share their experience and discuss the challenges in promoting country's interest.
The envoys will also jointly call on the President before leaving Dhaka for their respective destinations, the officials added.
