First mission would be to repair damage: BB Governor

The new governor of Bangladesh Bank has said his first mission would be to repair damage that central bank faced over the forex reserve heist of $101 million.

Fazle Kabir, who was chairman of Sonali Bank before being appointed governor of the central bank, spoke to media persons on Thursday after return from the US.

Kabir came home a day before he was scheduled to return.

He vowed that he would put his full effort to do his job responsibly given by the government.

Atiur Rahman quit as the central bank governor on Tuesday amid pressure from the government after it was revealed that the bank had kept the government in dark about the cyber-theft of $81 million from its account with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
