A Rangpur court on Wednesday placed Titu Roy on a four-day remand in a case filed for his blasphemous post on Facebook under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Devangsu Kumar Sarker passed the order after police produced Titu before the court with a 10-day remand, said the officer-in-charge of District Detective Branch of Police Shariful Islam.

On Tuesday, Titu was arrested from Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district.

On November 5, Alamgir Hossain, a trader from nearby Lalchandrapur village, under the district’s Gangachara upazila, filed a case against Titu who allegedly made the Facebook post demeaning Islam that sparked a strong protest.

The protesters torched eight Hindu houses and locked in a clash with law enforcers that left one dead by bullet and 25, including seven cops, injured.

Later, police filed two cases over the incident with Kotwali and Gangachara police stations.
